How to Make Easy Cheddar Garlic Drop Biscuits
Please see the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full recipe details.
- Preheat Your Oven. Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder until everything is well combined.
- Cut in the Butter. Add your cold butter to the flour mixture. I like to grate mine but you can cube it. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the Cheese and Milk. Stir in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Pour in the milk and gently mix until a soft, shaggy dough forms. If the dough seems a little dry, add an extra splash of milk. Be careful not to overmix!
- Scoop and Bake. Using a large spoon or cookie scoop, drop 8 generous portions of dough onto your prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden and the centers are cooked through.
- Brush with Garlic Butter. While the biscuits bake, stir together the melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley if using. As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, generously brush the warm tops with that delicious garlic butter.
- Serve and Enjoy! Serve these fluffy Cheddar Garlic Drop Biscuits warm with your favorite soups, stews, or cozy family dinners.
Recipe Tips
Cold butter is the secret to soft, tender biscuits. Don’t let it soften before mixing it into the flour.
Freshly shredded sharp cheddar melts beautifully and gives these biscuits the best cheesy flavor.
Mix the dough just until everything comes together. Overmixing can leave you with dense biscuits instead of fluffy ones.
Don’t Worry About Perfection. These are drop biscuits! No rolling, cutting, or shaping required. Those rustic edges are part of their charm.
Don’t Skip the Garlic Butter! Brushing the biscuits while they’re still warm lets all that buttery garlic goodness soak right in. So simple, but SO delicious!
How to Store and Reheat
Allow your Cheddar Garlic Drop Biscuits to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
These biscuits freeze beautifully! Once completely cooled, place them in a freezer-safe bag or container and freeze for up to 3 months.
For that fresh-from-the-oven goodness, warm your biscuits in a 350°F oven for 5–8 minutes, or until heated through. You can also pop one in the microwave for 15–20 seconds for a quick and easy option.
My Tip: Brush reheated biscuits with a little extra melted garlic butter. It makes them taste just as delicious as the day you baked them!
