There’s nothing better than a soft, fluffy muffin packed with melty chocolate chips! These Mini Chocolate Chip Muffins are the perfect bite-sized treat for busy mornings, lunchboxes, or an afternoon snack.

I love taking processed foods that my kids see in the grocery store and trying to make a better version of it. That was what I did with this recipe. My kids love the little muffins that come in the package but that list of ingredients is very questionable- so I started playing around with ingredients and that was when this recipe was created.

Anytime I can add Greek yogurt to a recipe I do. I love having some extra protein in these muffins to help keep my kids fuller for a bit longer while snacking. These mini muffins are a staple in our home because they’re quick to make, easy to grab, and loved by both kids and adults!

How to Make The Best Mini Chocolate Chip Muffin

1. Preheat your Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a mini muffin tin with paper liners or grease it well. I prefer to use a silicon muffin pan for easy removal of my muffins.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

Dry ingredients for the muffins in a white bowl with the wet ingredients in the background

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Combine Wet Ingredients

the wet ingredients in a glass bowl with the mixed dry ingredients behind them and the chocolate chips.

In a separate large bowl, mix the melted butter, cane sugar, Greek yogurt, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.

4. Incorporate Dry Ingredients

Mixing the wet and dry ingredients together in a glass bowl with a spoon. Chocolate chips are sitting to the side in a small white bowl.

Slowly fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

5. Add Chocolate Chips

The muffin batter full together in a glass bowl with a silver spoon.

Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

6. Fill Muffin Tins

Mini muffin batter in the silicone muffin tin with a glass bowl with the rest of the batter to the side with an ice cream scoop.

Using a spoon or a small cookie scoop, fill each muffin cup about 3/4 full with the batter.

7. Bake the Muffins

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.

8. Cool Completely

Let the muffins cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy once they are cooled!

Tips for the Perfect Mini Muffins

  • Don’t overmix your batter. If you do you will have a more dense muffin when you want a light and fluffy muffin.
  • Make sure to use a full-fat Greek yogurt for the best texture and flavor.
  • Sprinkle the top of your muffins with a few extra chocolate chips before baking to get a bakery-style muffin.
  • Let your mini chocolate chip muffins cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack so that they don’t become soggy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use regular chocolate chips?
Yes you can! I would just chop them up in smaller pieces so that you get more chocolate in every bite.

Can I make these regular sized muffins?
Yes, To do this line a muffin tin with liners and fill 3/4 of the way full. Bake at 350°F for about 18-20 minutes or when a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. This recipe will make 12 regular sized muffins.

How do I store them?
Make sure your muffins are in an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days or make a double batch and pop them in the freezer for up to 2 months.
